Something genuinely changed in hearing aids in 2026. Both Signia and Oticon released chips that run deep neural networks — AI trained on millions of real-world sound scenes — directly inside the hearing aid. It is the biggest shift in how these devices handle noise in more than a decade, and both platforms are now available at Hearing Care Centers.

Why an AI processor actually matters
Most people think hearing loss is a volume problem. It usually is not. The far harder problem is separating the voice you want from everything else in the room — and that is the job a healthy inner ear and brain do automatically, thousands of times a second.
Older hearing aids attacked this with rules: detect noise, turn down the microphone pointing at it, narrow the beam toward the front. That helps in a quiet restaurant. It falls apart at a family dinner where four people are talking, the TV is on, and the person you care about is sitting to your left.
A deep neural network works differently. It has been trained on enormous libraries of real sound — speech, clatter, traffic, babble — and it learns to pull the speech out the way an unimpaired auditory system would, instead of following a fixed rule. That is why this generation handles the hard rooms noticeably better than the last one.
Signia
MaX
Powered by Acoustic Intelligence

Signia’s MaX platform is the first hearing aid to run four deep neural networks at once, each with its own job, all analyzing sound simultaneously on a single chip.
- Speech detection — finds speech in the environment
- Own voice detection — recognizes your voice, with no calibration step in the office
- Scene analysis — continuously reads the room instead of switching between fixed programs
- Noise processing — identifies the type of noise and where it is coming from
What that does in a real room
- RealTime Conversation Enhancement locates and enhances several speakers at once — useful at a table, not just across it. Signia reports it processes 75% more data points per second than the previous IX platform.
- Dynamic Noise Control tells the difference between restaurant babble and traffic, and keeps you aware of sounds that matter for safety.
- Own Voice Processing keeps your own voice sounding natural — historically one of the top reasons people give up on hearing aids. Signia reports a 30% reduction in returns.
Signia’s claim: 97% of wearers performed better with MaX in noisy group conversations than with key competitor devices.
Living with them
- Pure C&G MaX receiver-in-canal, eight colors
- Portable charger: full charge in four hours, about six hours of run time from a 30-minute top-up, and four full charges stored in the case
- OneConnect: Bluetooth Classic, Bluetooth LE Audio, telecoil, and Auracast

Oticon
Reveal
Dual AI processing

Oticon took a different route. Reveal runs two AI networks in parallel with deliberately opposite jobs — one sharpening speech, one protecting everything else.
- Speech AI — enhances the speech of the people around you
- Context AI — recognizes and balances the surrounding sounds that give a room its shape
Why the second network matters
Aggressive noise reduction has a cost. Strip a room down to one voice and you also strip out the footsteps behind you, the car at the curb, and the sense of where you are. Oticon’s BrainHearing approach argues the brain needs that context to do its own sorting — so Reveal balances speech clarity against the surrounding scene rather than deleting it.
What Oticon reports
- A 60% stronger brain response in their internal research
- Up to 25 dB more gain than top competing devices — meaningful if you have a more significant loss
- Reveal Optimizer feedback management: 30% faster feedback prevention with four times greater precision, which in practice means less whistling when you hug someone or put on a hat
Living with them
- Rechargeable
- Made for iPhone and optimized for Android
- Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast, hands-free calling and direct streaming

Two philosophies, side by side
| Signia MaX | Oticon Reveal | |
|---|---|---|
| AI architecture | Four DNNs on one chip, running simultaneously | Two AI networks — Speech AI and Context AI |
| Core idea | Find and enhance the speakers, control the noise by type | Sharpen speech while preserving the surrounding scene |
| Standout claim | 97% of wearers did better in noisy group conversation vs. competitors | 60% stronger brain response; up to 25 dB more gain |
| Own voice | Dedicated DNN, no office calibration needed | Handled within the wider processing |
| Connectivity | Bluetooth Classic, LE Audio, telecoil, Auracast | LE Audio, Auracast, iPhone and Android |
| Best considered when | Group settings and restaurants are your hardest problem | You want natural, open sound — or you have a more significant loss |
Straight talk before you choose
The figures above are the manufacturers’ own — we have labelled them that way on purpose. They come from company testing, not independent trials, and no chip performs identically for every ear.
Here is what we tell every patient: the fitting matters more than the processor. Two people with the same hearing aid and different programming have completely different experiences. Real-ear measurement, honest follow-up, and adjustments over the first few months are what turn good hardware into hearing you actually keep using. That is the part we do.
We also fit Phonak, and for some losses and lifestyles it remains the better answer. If that is you, we will say so.

Eight quick questions about how you hear in real situations. Takes about two minutes. A licensed provider reviews every answer, and if you would like to try the new technology, we will set up a demo at the office closest to you.
